How to Complete the Application
1. Never visit a business office to pick up an application in casual attire.
2. Be prepared to complete an application even if you have a resume.
3. Take a pen and a pencil.
4. Have all previous employer's names, addresses and phone numbers available.
5. Have names, addresses and phone numbers for at least three additional references.
6. Complete all blanks on the application. If the question does not apply to you, write n/a.
7. Follow directions. If it asks for most recent employer first, list it chronologically.
8. Never write "refer to resume.
9. Be accurate and honest.
10. Write neatly.
11. Spell correctly.
12. Avoid using negative words such as "quit" or "fired." Leave blank and explain at the interview.
13. Avoid stating a salary requirement. You can under or over price yourself.
What Pre-employment Tests to Expect
1. Most property management companies require a drug screening. Prescription drugs will not affect this test. The records are filed indefinitely. You will permanently close the door of opportunity with a company if the results are positive.
2. Most companies require a criminal background check. Each company has a different hiring policy.
3. Many companies check credit. Each company has a different hiring policy. Most require good credit and rental history in order for employees to live on site.
4. All companies verify previous employment references.
5. Most companies require a valid driver’s license.
6. Many companies require personality or aptitude tests. Although you cannot study for these tests, you should expect it, relax and answer honestly.
7. Many companies require maintenance tests. Usually there are specific questions regarding H.V.A.C., electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance
